Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the benefits of attending an all-female school?

At an all-girls school, there is a commitment to put girls first in a world that still, all too often, puts them second. The faculty/staff can focus attention on the unique leaning styles of young women and can focus attention on the challenges facing young women today. Students are not worried about impressing the boys and, in turn, become more assertive and learn to take initiative both in and out of the classroom. Girls play all of the roles at PMA. They are the presidents of their classes, the leaders of extracurricular clubs/activities, the class clowns, the star athletes, etc. Students also benefit greatly from the support they receive from their fellow classmates. Students encourage each other to succeed academically and offer support through difficult situations. The all-female atmosphere encourages students to “be true to themselves” and discover their individuality.

Q. When is the application deadline?

Each year, numerous applications for admission are received, making the acceptance process competitive and selective. Because the acceptance process is competitive, accuracy and timeliness can become import factors. Applications are due by December 31, 2008.

Q. Do I have to take a test to be accepted at PMA?

Yes. All current eighth graders, applying for a seat in Presentation of Mary Academy’s Class of 2013, must take the Scholastic Testing Service High School Placement Test. The test is being administered at PMA on Saturday, November 15, 2008 and Saturday, December 13, 2008 (students choose one date only). There is a $25.00 exam fee.

Q. When will I find out if I was accepted at PMA?

Notification letters will be mailed on January 31, 2009. A $300.00 reservation fee is required by February 20, 2009 to reserve a seat in PMA’s Class of 2013.

Q. What are the criteria needed to be accepted at PMA?

There are several different factors that are considered for admission. Because PMA offers a rigorous and challenging college-preparatory curriculum, we are looking for students that are getting A’s and B’s in the seventh and eighth grade. We also look at students’ High School Placement Test Scores, letters of recommendations, essays, and extracurricular activities. If a student is displeased with her grades, a personal interview with the Admissions Director can be requested to explain any extenuating circumstances. The Admissions Committee looks at each student as a whole, unique individual.

Q. How do I find out more about Presentation of Mary Academy?

Choosing a high school to attend is an important decision. Please call the Admissions Office at (978) 682-9391 ext. 108 to have a school brochure mailed to your address. Also, visit PMA’s annual Open House being held on Sunday, October 19, 2008 anytime between 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for tours of the school.
